Romanul „Eyes of Darness” vorbeşte despre virusul Wuhan-400
De curând s-a aflat că epidemia de coronavirus a fost descoperită într-o carte scrisă în anul 1981. „Eyes of Darkness” este un roman de ficţiune în care autorul, Dean Koontz, prezintă povestea unui laborator chinez care a creat un virus periculos, pentru a fi folosit ca armă biologică pe timp de război. Culmea, laboratorul chinez este localizat în Wuhan, locul de izbucnire a virusului în zilele noastre.
În carte, virusul se numeşte Wuhan-400 şi este descris ca arma perfectă, întrucât afectează toţi oamenii, la rând. Dean Koontz precizează în romanul său că virusul nu trăieşte mai mult de un minut, iar că procesul de decontaminare nu este unul scump, odată cu extinderea acestuia. Mai mult, autorul spune despre Wuhan-400 că medicamentele şi antibioticele nu au efect asupra lui. Singurul leac, împotriva Wuhan-400, era o combinaţie de curenţi electrici şi căldură puternică.
„În jurul anului 2020, o boală similară cu pneumonia se va răspândi peste tot în lume, atacând plămânii și căile respiratorii și rezistând la toate medicamentele cunoscute. Doctorul Sajava Senanyake, specialist în boli infecţioase, a dezvăluit despre coronavirus că ar putea să dispară odată cu venirea căldurii. de asemenea, acesta a mai spus că este posibil ca o altă epidemie de coronavirus să apară peste 10 ani. Overview
A mother sends her son on a camping trip with a leader who has led this trip into the mountains 16 times before without mishap; that is until this time. Every single camper and leader and driver die with no explanation. As the grieving mother who is the protagonist begins to accept the fact that her son, Danny, is dead she starts getting vicious bully-like attacks from nowhere saying he is not dead, such as writing on chalk boards, words from printers and other various ‘signs’. Along with her new friend, Elliot Stryker, Christina Evans sets out to find out what could have possibly happened on the day that her son ‘died’.

Television adaptation
According to author Dean Koontz in the afterword of a 2008 paperback reissue, television producer Lee Rich purchased the rights for the book along with The Face of Fear, Darkfall, and a fourth unnamed novel for a television series based on Koontz’s work. The Eyes of Darkness was assigned to Ann Powell and Rose Schacht, co-writers of Drug Wars: The Camarena Story, but they could never deliver an acceptable script. Ultimately, The Face of Fear was the only book of the four made into a television movie.
For the 1989 edition onwards, the novel’s bioweapon was renamed Wuhan-400 (likely due to the end of the Cold War), prompting speculation from some in early 2020 that Koontz had somehow predicted the Coronavirus disease 2019.
