A photographer has snapped an incredible photo of a volcano erupting as a meteor shoots over the Milky Way in the skies ahead.
The photo, which is featured as NASA ’s Astronomy Picture of the Day, was snapped by photographer Diego Rizzo in Guatemala.
The volcano featured in the image is the Volcan de Fuego, also known as the ‘Volcano of Fire’.
NASA explained: “On the land of the featured image, the Volcano of Fire (Volcán de Fuego) is seen erupting topped by red-hot, wind-blown ash and with streams of glowing lava running down its side.”
Meanwhile, the central plane of the Milky Way can be seen in the skies above, with a meteor just below and the trail of a satellite to the upper right.
And the stunning astronomical features don’t end there.

În fundal se vede Calea Lactee, în toată splendoarea sa, un meteorit tocmai ce arde la intrarea sa vijelioasă în atmosfera terestră, iar un satelit artificial lasă o dîră scurtă în planul central. Planeta Jupiter apare în stânga cu Antares, cea mai strălucitoare stea de pe cer în dreapta sa, iar în planul apropiat se poate vedea Vulcanul de Foc (Volcán de Fuego) erupând, într-o străfulgerare roșie de materie incandescentă, praf dus de vânt, și magmă care se prelinge la vale.
